When Gojyo wakes up, he's back in his room.

It would have been so easy to dismiss the memory as a dream, and god, he would really like to. But the physical evidence is clear: the scratches on his chest are faint and nearly healed, but the ring of nail marks around the base of his cock will itch for another two days at least.

Not a dream, then.

He showers and dresses on automatic, chaining through a never-ending series of cigarettes (fresh, they're always fresh: the only thing that doesn't reset every night is him) until the room is lost in a cloud of acrid gray smoke.

He's never felt so betrayed. Love is supposed to hurt -- Mom taught him that -- but he never expected it to hurt like this. He's always known Hakkai would leave him one day. The people he cares about always leave him, that's just a given, like the sun rising. But to torture him first, until he broke and begged... that he can't forgive. Gojyo doesn't have much in the way of pride, but there are some things a man can't let go unpunished.

Hakkai is somewhere in this hotel, and Gojyo's going to find him. Now.

Hakkai shuddered, and Gojyo's grip tightened. He didn't actually have any illusions that he could hold Hakkai back if he really wanted to be free, but if he wanted to be free that badly, then there would be nothing Gojyo could do to stop Sanzo from putting him down.

"You...?" Puzzled, he stared after Sanzo's retreating form. "You're livin' together?"

"You get the floor until you grow a pair to handle life."

Sanzo didn't even bother to deal with the redhead's confusion. It wasn't necessary and a waste of time. What he did say though was this. "The only animal allowed in my room is the monkey."

For the moment, the only thing keeping Hakkai's worn control intact was the contact with Gojyo. No matter what had been said, it still helped center him when everything around him seemed to be spinning. Of course, he still managed a low grumble of noise at Sanzo's little comment.

"Not exactly by choice..."

"...Okaaay." Does Gojyo seriously have to be the voice of reason here? Does everyone here understand how fucked up things have gotten when Sha Gojyo is the rational one?

"If you don't like sleepin' on the floor in his room... why don't you just go back to your own?"

"He's an idiot that needs a babysitter to keep him from pulling dumb shit."

Clearly that was a perfectly logical reason for forcing Hakkai to stay in his room. The fact that it had been brought on by the other trying to kill him was another story but he wasn't about to mention that.

"He threatened to shoot me."

Hakkai was slowly starting to relax in Gojyo's hold, but it hadn't stopped the fine tremors that still slid through his body.

".... are you alright, Gojyo?"

Hakkai's been doing a lot of that lately, that threatening to kill people thing. It's worrisome.

"Well, sorry Sanzo-sama, but we're a package deal. You get one dumbass, you get th'second one free." He quirked an eyebrow at Sanzo over Hakkai's shoulder.

"It'll be the best slumber party~!"

He didn't bother to answer Hakkai's question. Neither of them were all right... but they would be. They had to be.

Sanzo froze, looking like he'd choked on something.

What did he just...say...?

"Who said you could stay in my room?"

Huh?

Hakkai would be wide eyed if one wasn't already swollen closed thanks to Gojyo's impeccable aim. Shifting a bit in his arms, he craned his neck around to peer up at him, an eyebrow cocked.

One point to Team Sha.

"Did I stutter?" he drawled, raising an eyebrow of his own. "Besides, folks disappear all th'time in this place. It's too dangerous for us t'be split up. So I guess I'm roomin' with you two."

Sanzo stared at him for a very, very long time. That actually sounded like logic coming from the kappa. What was this world coming to?

"It's my room, you bastard."

It wasn't every day that Hakkai had to admit that Gojyo had a point... but this time, he did. Sighing, he tried to reach up and touch Gojyo's arm to let him know he could let go.

"... he has a point, Sanzo."

"You don't need to sound so surprised." Letting Hakkai go, Gojyo stepped back, ducking his head to light a smoke. "I do more'n just fuck an' fight, you know."

"And yeah," he continued, turning to Sanzo. "It's your room. But if you can't trust him to be on his own, then it's about to be our room."

Sanzo's brow twitched and he realized he would need a cigarette soon. Several of them in fact.

"This way." Which meant that he was agreeing to this. Because they were both right. It would be better if they all roomed together.

Even though he was loose now, Hakkai didn't move to follow Sanzo. He wasn't planning on trying to duck away from the monk. He just thought he should offer a suggestion to make life a little easier.

"... as it seems that you'll be entertaining another guest, perhaps we should find a larger room... a suite, perhaps? That way, you can both have a bed. The larger bathroom would be a plus as well."

Stuffing his hands in his pockets, Gojyo strolled past Hakkai to follow Sanzo. He might have stopped you from committing suicide by Sanzo, Hakkai, but that doesn't mean you're forgiven.

"Bet you twenty bucks your room's gotten bigger," he shrugged. "This place does shit like that. That is, assumin' th'hotel approves of us all shackin' up together."

"It would." Because it would assume that he would just sleep with these two when he had no intention of doing so. No, he fully intended to avoid sex at all costs.

Sanzo's thoughts could be so realistic. "If the room isn't bigger then we'll look for another."

Perhaps Gojyo could feel the flat stare leveled at his back, but a moment later, after a soft sigh, he followed the others. If he remembered correctly (and the hotel hadn't moved things around), Sanzo's room really was pretty close by, so they'd see when they got there.

Hakkai could stare all he liked. It wouldn't changed a goddamn thing.

"So where th'hell have you been, anyway?" he asked, leaving Hakkai completely behind and keeping pace with Sanzo. The burn on his arm itched like a motherfucker, and he couldn't help but rub at it. "Haven't seen you in months."

"Where we're supposed to be." In their world and not this place. He didn't know how he ended up here but he wasn't pleased with the cosmic joke that had been played.

Sanzo glanced down at what Gojyo was going and jabbed his elbow into him. "Stop rubbing, moron."

He watched them walking along before him and realized something he hated. Things were well and truly broken and for the first time since he'd taken his new name, he felt completely lost, even though he was following them as always.

His steps slowed as he glanced towards the line of doors they were passing as they walked down the hall. It would be all too easy to just slip into one of the rooms and perhaps, if the hotel was kind, it would let him disappear into some myriad and far off room, at least for a little while.

"Oi, fuck you, it's annoyin'," Gojyo grumbled, giving his burn one last scratch before shoving his hands back into his pockets. No matter how annoying the burn was, Hakkai's bruised and swollen face had to be twenty times as bad. And Hakkai had deserved it... but fuck if Gojyo didn't feel bad for the damage he'd caused.

The guilt hurt. It hurt a lot.

"You gotten laid yet, Cherry-chan?"

It was like magic how quickly that gun appeared to be pointed at Gojyo's face. Sanzo definitely knew how to quick draw, there was no doubts about that.

"One more word and I shoot you."

Then over his shoulder, he called, "Don't think about, Hakkai."

Damn it.

There was a moment of indecision. Should he attempt it? The door was just a step away... but if he took that chance, it could end up with Sanzo shooting him and he had a feeling that Gojyo's earlier threat wasn't just a threat.

Shoving his hands in his pockets, he ducked his head and looked back down the hall and after his... companions.

At this point, he couldn't really call them friends.

Don't even try it? What was Hakkai...?

Oh.

God fucking dammit. He'd been so mad that he'd forgotten just how fragile Hakkai was. How little it took to send him over the edge.

"Oi," he called back. "You think I saved your ass back there just so you could hand it over to this fuckin' hotel?" Emphatically, he dropped his cigarette on the lush red carpet and ground it into dust, smearing charcoal and tobacco bits in as wide a patch as he could.

"You can't get rid of us that easy."
